The government has determined to select General Bipin Rawat, as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) with impact from December 31, 2019, and till more orders and increase in service of General Bipin Rawat with December 31, 2019, and till such time he continues the position of CDS.  Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat has been called India's first Chief of Defence Staff. General Rawat has been called the first CDS a day before he is registered to retire from assistance after his three-year term as the Chief of Army Staff.
